For ages spring has been symbolized by creativity and the beginning of new life. That is why we are using the beginning of the new century and the new millenium to develop a new concept of our festival. The springtime as well as new surroundings
seem to be appropriate to connect an old symbol with new creativity. It is always a unique event to hear new music adequately rendered. The various events of the festival are projected as different rites.
As contemporary musicians always feel closer to similarly thinking poets, painters and theatre artists than to their own conservative colleagues, we want to focus more on the connection between different kinds of art. We try to provide space for
contemporary music in the context of contemporary art and to lay down a foundation for its uniqueness in the society in the form of new rites.

- Eight Thrushes in Moravia
The American composer Daniel Goode together with Philipe Corner and John Zorn, who is more famous in our country, are among the foremost representatives of the New York 'Down-Town Scene'. Daniel Goode has his own Downtown Ensemble and is
publishing on Zorn´s label 'Tzadik'. In his music he is treating undemanding and conceptual issues towards greater musical sophistication. He is also a skilful clarinetist. His Brno project is composed of a solo recital in the House of
Arts (Dům umění) and of a concert in the Vaňkovka where the Brno Garrison Orchestra and the folk band of Mirek Minks with the Brno fiddler Otakar Pokorný will be performing with him within the framework of his multicultural composition
Eight Thrushes.

OPERA APERTA
Vít Zouhar: Coronide
J. H. Krchovský: Poems
Baroque opera from the twenty-first century glossed by the cult poet of the young generation J. H. Krchovský. New opera work follows baroque sources and also uses text materials from the eighteenth century. Coronide is based on a tragic
love story from 'Metamorphoses' by Ovidius. Refined neobaroque aesthetics and subject matter are glossed in sarcastic epigrams by the poet J. H. Krchovský, which adds a new dimension to this work.

MEETING WITH NOVELTY
Sarah Frances + Synchronicity
Sarah Frances, a prodigious English singer, is a new talent in the field of improvised music. Her four-octave! voice is able to reach the depths of our subconscious. In her concerts Sarah Frances creates 'vocal landscapes' surrounding the
listener, who easily forgets that what he can hear is just a voice. In her Synchronicity Orchestra the 'guru' of the British improvising scene, the saxophonist Lou Gare (prev. AMM), is playing together with the composer and keyboard instrumentalist
Sam Rivers and one of the most innovative contemporary electronic guitar players David Stanley.
